Nonsuch may be privately owned, but we don't want it to become an isolated private world. Our ambition is for the restoration of the estate to have a positive impact beyond its gates. We want the food we serve to be grown or produced locally. We want local tradespeople and craftspeople involved in the restoration. As Nonsuch grows, we want to create permanent jobs across hospitality, food, gardens, maintenance, wellness and the wider estate. Nonsuch Farm will be an important part of this.
The farm shop, Tea Room, Farmer's Kitchen, nurseries and independent businesses are being created for local people as well as visitors to the estate. We also want guests who stay at Nonsuch to explore Wiltshire beyond the estate. Nonsuch should be another reason to visit this part of the county, supporting other pubs, restaurants, shops, attractions and businesses during their stay. We want Nonsuch to be as good a neighbour as it is a place to visit.
At heart, Nonsuch will be a peaceful country retreat. Everything we create should feel at home in the estate and its surroundings. Guests will leave their cars in one discreet central car park, then travel with their luggage to their accommodation in vintage Land Rovers, leaving the estate itself calmer and more enjoyable to explore on foot. New buildings are being designed to sit quietly within the landscape.
The largest new building will sit below the existing hedge line rather than announcing itself from the road. We want people to visit Nonsuch, but we don't want Nonsuch to overwhelm the place it belongs to. Above all, this project is about giving an important historic estate a future. The fire could have marked the beginning of the end for Nonsuch. Instead, we hope it becomes the beginning of another chapter. A place that provides employment, supports local businesses, brings visitors to Wiltshire and protects an important part of its heritage for future generations.
Updates
Parkland &
Landscape
The landscape is as important to Nonsuch as its buildings. A sculpture trail will wind through the parkland, giving guests and visitors another reason to explore the estate on foot. The restoration isn't limited to buildings. Our intention is to care for the wider landscape and ensure that the parkland, gardens, trees and natural environment are considered as part of the long term future of Nonsuch. Our ambition isn't to make Nonsuch the loudest country estate in Wiltshire. It is to make it one of the most thoughtful.
